The work of British artist Tom Butler, resonates with texture, graphics and movement. His busy mixed media style conveys a snapshot of City life – a cacophony of colour and form which flickers and flashes in our field of vision. Working from a build-up of layered paints, Tom then applies areas of collage using magazine, newspaper and other printed materials. Sometimes, these components are random in their application – creating a sense of subliminal information sources – much like the way we absorb visual data in our everyday life. Seen close up or viewed from afar, Tom’s artworks are filled with subtle observational nuance in which everyday actions and familiar places are described in a unique and highly photo-impressionistic style. Following a highly acclaimed London series, Tom has captured Dubai in all its colourful vibrancy. From souks aligning the busy Creek to iconic architectural structures – the series captures the unique spirit of this exciting City like never before.
